M2 MacBook Air Said to Be Among Most Likely WWDC Hardware Announcements, AR/VR Headset Unlikely - MacRumors

Apple may unveil new Mac hardware at WWDC this year, with the redesigned MacBook Air being the most likely potential hardware announcement, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

MacBook Air Mock 2022 Triad Feature
In today's "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained his expectations for potential Apple hardware announcements at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Signs of "realityOS," the long-rumored operating system believed to run on Apple's mixed-reality headset, were spotted in Apple source code earlier this year and there has been growing enthusiasm about Apple's AR and VR project finally "approaching liftoff" for launch this year. Rumors of Apple announcing its headset sooner rather than later were stoked earlier today when a trademark for "realityOS" surfaced, with a foreign filing date deadline of June 8, 2022, just two days after the main WWDC keynote. Despite these rumors, Gurman is wary of "a full-blown" announcement of Apple's headset at WWDC:

In terms of new hardware... though Apple's upcoming mixed-reality headset is full steam ahead — underscored by the recent demonstration of the device to the company's board — I'd be wary of expecting a full-blown presentation for developers and consumers next week.

Gurman previously reported that the launch of the headset will likely be delayed until 2023 following a plethora of development problems, including issues with overheating from at least one chip on par with the M1 Pro, as well as camera and software challenges.

Mac-related announcements are reportedly more likely at WWDC this year, should Apple unveil any new hardware, according to Gurman. He believes that Apple planned to launch a new MacBook Air model with the M2 chip at WWDC this year, but supply chain issues seem to have complicated the timeline:

If there's any hardware at WWDC, it will likely be on the Mac side. The company has been aiming to launch the next MacBook Air with M2 chips at the conference. The recent supply chain crunch due to Covid-related closures in China has complicated that, but developers say that Apple employees are increasingly using next-generation MacBook Airs with their apps. That's a sign that the new Mac is close.

Beyond any potential hardware announcements, major new software updates for Apple's devices, including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and macOS 13, are expected to be previewed at WWDC on Monday, June 6.

Google Maps is the go-to navigation app for a large chunk of smartphone users. However, Google Maps can be accessed on smartwatches, including Apple Watch as well. You can also navigate to existing shortcuts, get step-by-step directions, and get the current ETA for your commute on Apple Watch. You won’t have to glance at your phone as well as the directions come right on your wrist. Wondering how you can get directions from Google Maps directly on the Apple Watch?

Things to know about using Google Maps on Apple Watch
You should know that you can’t enter a new location on the Apple Watch directly. You will have to use your iPhone for doing that. Once you have done that, you can follow the directions on the Apple Watch. There’s no map to see on the Apple Watch screen, instead, you will see distances, turn-by-turn instructions, drive time and a turn-direction arrow. All this is done via haptic feedback.

There’s a Google Maps app for the Watch where you can access directions to saved locations. You can create these shortcuts if you don’t want to use your iPhone to search for directions to saved places. This comes in real handy if you are walking around and not driving.

Pre-requisites:
To use Google Maps on your Apple Watch, make sure your devices have:

  • WatchOS 5 or greater
  • iOS 10 or greater
  • Bluetooth enabled
First things first, to use Google Maps on your Apple Watch, you will need to turn on Turn on location services and that too always on. Here’s how you can do that: On your iPhone, tap Settings>Privacy>Location Services> Google Maps. Then Tap Only While Using the App or Always Allow.

If you want to get directions for a ‘saved’ destination, follow these steps:

1.

On your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app

2.

Tap a shortcut (Home or Work)

3.

You’ll get step-by-step directions on your watch.

If you want to get directions to a new destination, follow these steps:

1.

On your iPhone, open the Google Maps app

2.

Start your navigation

3.

Then on your Apple Watch, open the Google Maps app

4.

Under “Current trip” tap the ETA

Should you buy the Galaxy Z Flip 3 now or wait for Galaxy Flip 4? - Pocketnow

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is undoubtedly one of the most successful and popular foldable devices on the market today. Samsung officially announced it last year at its August Galaxy Unpacked event, and it shocked the world once the price was revealed, starting at just $999.99. It was the most affordable and premium foldable device, and it encouraged millions to try out the flip side.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the phone to get if you've been itching to try out the folding form factor without breaking the bank.

You should buy the Galaxy Z Flip 3 today if…

You want to save money

Carriers and even stores offer some mind-blowing bundles and discounts on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, and you can often purchase it for as little as $600 in the US. If you’re fine not having the latest and the greatest all the time, and you want to save some money, then the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the way to go. It’ll continue to receive updates for the foreseeable future. The hardware is more than capable of playing all graphics-intensive games that are available today and in the near future.

It’s also an excellent device for multitasking. Thanks to Samsung’s suite of built-in software, it lets you use multiple apps simultaneously and in several different modes due to the unique form factor. If you want to try the flip life on the cheap, today, the Z Flip 3 is your best and most affordable option.

You have a charger nearby

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is an excellent smartphone and foldable, and while it lets you do everything you want with ease, it doesn’t exactly have a large battery or an excellent battery life for that matter. We reviewed Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, and found that it had decent battery life, but this will depend on your use case, and judging by other reviews and findings, some may require a charge mid-day, while others may be able to go for a full day without a problem.

You don’t need a new phone

Let’s be real, if you’re currently using an older smartphone, and you don’t think that you’re a demanding person to be on the bleeding edge all the time, upgrading and spending more money doesn’t make much sense, unless, of course, you have pocket change to spare. Picking up the Flip 3 is a great way to save money, as we mentioned previously, and the Flip 4 isn’t expected to offer that much more value for the extra money.

If you want to try out the Flip and the go for a bit of nostalgia, the Flip 3 is one of the best devices that can get you the new phone feel. It’s sleek, compact, and packs premium materials both inside and the outside.

You want a great camera on a budget

Despite the Galaxy Z Flip 3 being nearly one year old, it still captures impressive photos and videos in all lighting conditions. It’s true that it won’t be as good as the more up-to-date flagships on the market like the Galaxy S22 series, but you don’t buy the Z Flip 3 for its camera capabilities, but unique and compact form factor. Additional camera features and sensors are great, and can be deemed helpful if you’re a hardcore photography enthusiast, but we’re confident that the Flip 3 will serve you just fine in the coming years.

You should wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 if…

You want to save money (Rumor)

Given the current global situation, we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t believe that we might see the Galaxy Z Flip 4 cost less, or around the same. However, recent rumors claimed that Samsung might reduce its profit margin on the new Galaxy Z series in order to make it more affordable and appealing to a wider audience, and the lower margin could mean that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 may cost around the same as the Z Flip 3 at $999.99, or even cheaper. Although, if we account for the current inflation and other global events, the same price may sound more realistic.

You want better performance

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is rumored to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, which offers noticeable performance and efficiency improvements over the Snapdragon 888 that was used in the Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 foldable. The memory is unlikely to change, but it will almost certainly perform better, and hopefully offer much-improved battery life.

You want a more durable device

z flip water resistance

The Galaxy Flip 3 was a massive upgrade over its predecessor when it comes to durability, and it was among the first devices to offer water resistance for splashes, sweat, and a bit of rain. It still wasn’t dust resistant, which meant that taking it down to the beach was still a no-no. This year, we didn’t hear anything about the Flip 4 having any dust resistance certificate, but it could happen, although it’s very unlikely. The durability of the device will almost certainly be improved over the Flip 3, but we don’t expect to see as much of an improvement as we saw last year.

The hinge is rumored to receive a brand new design, making it more durable and futureproof. The display crease is also said to be less noticeable when you touch the display, which was a concern for many people with the current generation of foldables. Leaks claim that it will still be visible to the naked eye, but less noticeable.

You want a longer-lasting foldable

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 75

Current rumors suggest that the battery inside the upcoming Z Flip 4 might not be much of an upgrade, if any, but the use of the latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC could include some dramatic changes to improve the endurance. The Flip 3 wasn’t known to be a battery champ, and while the Flip 4 isn’t expected to be one either, we anticipate that it will come with significant improvements both on the hardware and the software side.

You want a better camera

taking a selfie with a flip phone

Many complained that Samsung didn’t make any significant changes to the camera array on the Flip 3, but we found that it was more than capable of shooting in any lighting conditions, be it in pitch black, low-light, and direct sunlight. The device performed great in all environments. The lack of a telephoto sensor was a letdown, but it’s not something that we missed, as the Flip 3 had a perfect primary camera and a more versatile ultrawide.

Nintendo Shares New Music Track For Splatoon 3, Have A Listen - Nintendo Life

Splatoon 3 will arrive on the Switch this September, and ahead of release, Nintendo has been building up excitement by sharing new information and footage of the game.

Today is a little different though, with the reveal of a new in-game music track - "Sea Me Now" by the rock outfit, Front Roe (the song and title are obviously a play on words). It seems Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel also shared this song earlier in the week. This sneak peek lasts for just over a minute. Enjoy!

Gaming startup Candivore raises $10 million to build on Match Masters success - CTech

Israeli gaming startup Candivore, which is behind one of the most popular mobile games, Match Masters, announced on Thursday that it has concluded a funding round of $10 million from Vgames, an Israeli venture capital firm specializing in video games, and globally active investment fund Tiger Global Management. This fresh capital injection brings Candivore’s total fundraising to date to $22 million, $12 million of which was raised in 2021.

Match Masters has built an enormous community, recording more than 30 million downloads across the Google Play Store and Apple Store, while counting more than 5 million monthly active users playing more than 10 million matches daily.

This latest funding coincides with Candivore’s upcoming ad campaign slated for the United Kingdom. Designed to promote and attract more players to its Match Masters mobile game, the UK ad campaign, featuring both TV ads and online experiences, is set to launch on Friday and will feature legendary singer Robbie Williams and actor and football star Vinnie Jones.

Unlike other Match-3 games, Match Masters transforms the popular genre into a first-of-its-kind PvP competition. In Match Masters, gamers play live against opponents in a fast-paced turn-based environment, featuring different gameplay modes every day, tournaments and events, which enable players to earn rewards.

“The mobile gaming space has been booming for years and our journey has been wilder than anything we could have imagined”, noted Gal Goldstein, CEO of Candivore. “As we continue to work passionately to add more features for our players, our continued partnership with Vgames will help our efforts to make Match Masters even more rewarding for our global community of users.”

Match Masters generates sizable revenue compared with games commanding much larger audiences. Per data collected by application intelligence provider Sensor Tower, Match Masters generated $7 million in March 2022. By comparison, 8 Ball Pool - a mobile game with tens of millions of active players per month - recorded total revenue of $10 million during the same period.

“We are very excited about Candivore’s prospects”, said Eitan Reisel, founder of Vgames. “The mobile gaming market is witnessing tantalizing growth, and Candivore’s Match Masters has already positioned itself as one of the leading mobile games. With the long standing support of Vgames, I am confident that this mobile gaming experience will gain more momentum, creating ample opportunities for stakeholders and gamers alike.”
