Panasonic is continuing its current push in the rugged market with the announcement of the TOUGHBOOK G2. This is a detachable Windows tablet, equipped with a modular design and user-removable expansion packs known as xPAK’s. With these different xPAK’s, Pansonic promises up to 36 different combinations that can be used in conjunction with the TOUGHBOOK G2.

[embedded content] From a ruggedness standpoint, the TOUGHBOOK G2 sports a Military grade MIL-STD 810H certification, along with IP65 water and dust resistance. This design definitely adds a bit of bulk, but it’s well worth it if you need a detachable tablet to take with you on the worksite. As for specifics, the G2 weighs 2.9 pounds when detached, and 4.9 pounds with the optional keyboard. The TOUGHBOOK G2 features a 10.1-inch capacitive touch screen display, along with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and up to 1,000 nits of brightness. Powering this detachable behemoth is either the Intel Core i5 or i7 vPro processor and either 16GB or 32GB of RAM. The base configuration comes with 512GB of storage, but can be expanded up to 1TB and features a quick-release system to quickly remove the storage. The TOUGHBOOK G2 is being released with Windows 10 Pro, and will likely be capable of being updated to Windows 11 at some point next year.
