Apple Inc. released two iPhone 14 Pro models at the September event, two similar devices with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. The “notch” housing both the camera and Face ID sensors is now what Apple calls “dynamic island.” There’s still a black space at the top, but now the top area of the phone’s screen also highlights background activity in a small band.
The Pro phones have a new chip, the A16 Bionic, that improves performance with the camera and other features. They have an always-on display, which shows time and other information while reducing power consumption. The phones come in four colors: space black, silver, gold and a new deep purple.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be available for $999 and $1,099 respectively, on Sept. 16.
The Pro models have more powerful cameras and better video performance, features that the company generally includes for about $200 more than the base model.
Apple’s Pro phones have helped fuel record sales and profits for the company. Average selling prices of the iPhone rose to $954 in the June quarter compared with $783 in the September quarter in 2019, when the iPhone 11 was introduced, according to estimates by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners’ survey of consumers.
