Westcott has announced FlexiGels, a new custom-made silicone color gel accessory for its FJ400 strobes.
The patent-pending FlexiGels are reusable silicone color gels that fit snugly over the glass dome of the FJ400, allowing photographers to add a pop of color to photos without fussing with traditional gels.
Color gels are ideal for adding color to backdrops, providing dynamic rim lighting or hair lighting, or just adding a creative flair to portraits.
The FlexiGels are easily reusable and the silicone design is heat- and tear-resistant. The FlexiGel can withstand temperatures up to 392 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). The FlexiGels also don’t block the mount for light modifiers.
Westcott says that the FlexiGels “fit like a glove” and don’t require gaffer’s tape or clips to be held in place like traditional gel solutions. After a shoot concludes, Westcott recommends letting the FJ400 cool for at least five minutes before removing the FlexiGel.
FlexiGels come in an eight-pack with red, orange, light orange (similar to the standard “color temperature orange” [CTO] gel), yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink silicone gels.
To reiterate, the new FlexiGels are built for the Westcott FJ400 strobe. The 400 watt-second (Ws) AC/DC strobe promises 480+ full-power flashes per charge and delivers a high-end portable lighting solution for photographers whether they’re in the field or the studio. The FJ400 features integrated wireless communication and includes high-speed sync (HSS) and through-the-lens (TTL) functionality. The Westcott FJ400 is $599.
While designed for the FJ400, the FlexiGels are compatible with third-party strobes with glass domes that are 2 inches tall (5 centimeters) and 3.4 inches (8.6 centimeters) in diameter. Third-party strobes must also include adequate ventilation hole alignment to prevent overheating.
Westscott’s new FlexiGels are available now for $79.90. The eight silicon color gels ship with a lint-free travel-friendly microfiber storage case to ensure that the FlexiGels will be the “longest-lasting gels photographers will ever own.”
