Kodak's New Ektar H35N Half Frame Piles on Photo-Enhancing Features - PetaPixel

Kodak has announced a new version of its Ektar Half Frame film camera called the H35N. The new version, available in a variety of colors, also comes equipped with a litany of advancements over the original.

The original Ektar Half Frame came out in the spring of 2022 and allowed photographers to take two photos per frame of 35mm film. It was a lot of fun and gave photographers the ability to compose creative diptychs in analog.

That camera, and this new H35N version, are produced by Retopro and they bear the Kodak name via an official license with the company. The H35N is now the third product that the company has produced under the Kodak brand including the first half frame camera and a set of 1970s-inspired metal film cases it brought to market in 2020.

This new model builds on the success of the first half frame camera by adding features that give photographers more options with their captures.

The H35N features a built-in star filter, bulb function, and tripod mount along with an upgraded lens featuring a coated optic — all upgrades that might be found individually on reusable film cameras but are rare when combined into one body.

Retopro says that the star filter adds special effects when shooting “illuminated” objects to produce what it describes as “dreamy” outcomes. The filter can be switched on and off from a knob to the left of the lens.

Thanks to the bulb function and the new tripod mounting hole, the Ektar Half Frame H35 can now be used to capture long exposure photos.

The lens is described as a two-element, coated 22mm f/8 prime that features one aspherical acrylic lens. It either shoots in Bulb or at 1/100 second and features manual wind and rewind capability.

The Kodak Ekta H35N is available in six colors with either a stripe pattern or metallic surface. The camera is made of a mix of plastic and aluminum.

“One series combines the CD-like metallic surface with vivid colors of blue, orange and pink, giving a playful vibe,” the company says. “While another series is stripe patterned. It delivers a low-key lavish feeling with three options of black, silver and green.”
